Add email records to a domain

When a domain registered with Cloudzyro is used for a Cloudzyro site, we look after the site’s records for you. To use the same domain for email with a provider like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, you add that provider’s records under Email records on the domain’s page.

This section shows only for domains used with a site. If the domain is on your Web Hosting, its email records are in cPanel’s Zone Editor instead: see Point a domain at your Web Hosting.

Type Usually for
MX Where email for the domain is delivered. Has a Priority: lower numbers are tried first.
TXT Proving you own the domain, and email security such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
CNAME Settings some providers ask for, such as DKIM keys or autodiscover for mail apps.

Each record has a Name, a Type, a Value and, for MX, a Priority. Use @ as the name for the domain itself, or a name like autodiscover or _dmarc for the part before your domain.

  1. Sign in to your email provider and find the DNS records it asks you to add for your domain. Keep that page open.

  2. In the console, open Domains and click the domain.

  3. Under Email records, click Add a record for each record the provider gives you.

  4. Copy each record’s name, type, value and (for MX) priority exactly as the provider shows them.

  5. Click Save email records.

  6. Go back to your provider and ask it to verify the domain.

Changes usually reach everyone within an hour. If your provider can’t verify the domain straight away, give it a little longer and try again.

Only owners and admins of the workspace can change email records. Other members can see them.

In Google Workspace’s setup, Google shows the records for your domain. Typically you’ll add:

  • a TXT record on @ to verify you own the domain;
  • one or more MX records on @, with the priorities Google gives;
  • a TXT record on @ for SPF, and later a DKIM TXT record with the name Google gives you.

In the Microsoft 365 admin centre, adding a domain shows the records it needs. Typically you’ll add:

  • a TXT record on @ to verify you own the domain;
  • an MX record on @ pointing to Microsoft’s mail server for your domain;
  • a TXT record on @ for SPF;
  • a CNAME record named autodiscover, so mail apps find their settings.
  • www can’t be used. It’s your site’s address, so we manage it for you.
  • The domain itself (@) can’t be a CNAME. Records on @ are for MX and TXT.
  • A name with a CNAME can’t have any other record. For example, if mail is a CNAME, it can’t also have a TXT record.
  • Only MX, TXT and CNAME records. The site’s own records (www, and the A record on @) are looked after for you and don’t show here.

If you move the domain from a site to Web Hosting or another provider, set up its email records in the new place first, or email may stop arriving. If you move a domain that already has email to a site, add its email records here straight afterwards. See Choose what a domain is for.
